Thank you so much for making my first safari experience so incredible!! I was excited to go, but honestly had no idea what to expect… your expertise truly made our trip the best that it could be. Throughout the entire trip, even leading up to the safari, your expertise on the all of the wildlife was like sitting in on a live nature show. We were so excited to be able to see all of the “Big Five” – and it’s thanks to your amazing “sixth sense” about where and when to look for all the animals. It was exhilarating to go scouting for animals… and discovering a crowd of giraffes, elephants, etc. The abundance of wildlife in Masai Mara was astounding… and we were so excited to come at the right time of the year – baby season! Seeing the lion cubs, pregnant Cape buffalo, etc. was something that I will never forget. We were desperate to see “cats” on our safari trip, and you definitely did not disappoint… thanks to you and Ben, we were able to get our fill of cats! My favorite memory was creeping up to about 10 feet away from the lion sitting on the ant hill… and just observing him close up.
Next time, I will be sure to come during the Great Migration – with my husband! He was so jealous that he couldn’t come on this one… but we’ll definitely be returning on safari with DK in the future.

My wife and I went on a safari in Kenya and Tanzania. Daniel Kikemu was the Safari Director. This was one of the best vacations we ever took due in no small part to the skills and efforts of Daniel. Our trip was over two weeks with a group and every one of us had a great time.
In terms of the wildlife, Daniel knew where to go in each of the game parks and where to look. He has a great skill in spotting the various animals and birds and knows a lot about their habits and habitats. On one occasion he spotted a leopard in a tree only by his tail hanging out of the tree. He took us to various game parks and was able to educate us on each park’s climate and the impact on behavior patterns.
No group is without some challenging personalities. Some of our group left luggage and passports despite frequent reminders to bring them. Daniel handled these situations with patience and with a positive, confident demeanor that kept the trip and the group members happy and occupied.
Perhaps the most significant was his explanations concerning the peoples and the cultures of East Africa. We were so impressed and affected by these stories and explanations that we have returned many times and have started the Cherkin Preston Foundation to improve education in a remote Kenya village.
I hope you’ll have an opportunity to visit and learn about this fascinating corner of the world. I recommend you do it with Daniel as he’ll make it very special.

My Kenyan safari, led by Daniel Kikemu of DK Grand Safaris, was more than I could have imagined! Daniel was able to plan an entirely customized safari, based on our conversations about what animals we hoped to see, what type of accommodation we wanted, and how many days we wanted to spend. Because of Daniel’s expertise in planning and leading safaris, he came up with the perfect itinerary and our involvement was minimal. We just sat back, watched the animals, and enjoyed every moment of the experience! The great thing about a customized, private safari is that our schedule was entirely flexible and we were able to change plans based on how we felt at the moment. If we wanted to lay by the pool and leave 30 minutes late for the afternoon game drive, that was no problem! I shouldn’t forget to mention that in just 2 days, we saw all the big 5! Daniel is excellent at spotting the animals! Clearly, his 10+ years in the business has paid off.

My wife and I recently returned from our three weeks honeymoon to East Africa, we got married in 2007 but our hectic work schedules forced us to keep putting our dream trip off. Finally in March we left for Kenya and Tanzania. The first part of the trip was a trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro. After reaching the summit, we set off for Arusha and started the safari portion of our trip where we met up with Daniel and his company DK Grand Safaris. Our trip was amazing; Daniel is a gentleman and first rate guide. The accommodation, food and perhaps most important our experience on cultural and spiritual level proved unforgettable.

We have just returned from our third and most fabulous DREAM SAFARI ever! Jim and I had enjoyed our first two safaris so much, that we knew that we just had to invite our (adult) son along with us on the next one to share in our excitement, to see the wild animals in their natural habitat and to meet all our wonderful friends that we had made in the prior two years.
This time though, as our first two trips were in a group safari, we thought we would try out a custom private safari. Having gone with a top-name luxury outfitter in the past, we knew that it would be a hard act to follow, so we chose our outfitter wisely. DK Grand Safaris rose to the top of the list for us, as we liked their pledge 'Your dream - we make it come true". And Daniel did. Daniel will put together any safari you like, at any property you like, either a private safari, a group safari, either escorted or not, luxury, budget, mainstream or camping. He will work with you on your itinerary, either suggesting one if you are a novice at this, or as in our case, he will work with you on the camps and lodges and parks of your choice. We gave him a list of where we wanted to stay - our 'dream', he put it together in a logistical smooth running trip and it was a winner.
As he had been our safari director in the past two safaris, we just couldn't imagine a trip on the road without Daniel. We asked him to please quote us on a fully escorted safari throughout Kenya and Tanzania - and surprisingly - the price to include a full time escort is not as high as one would think! As Daniel is a top-notch spotter, we knew that we would see lots of special animals & activities that we may miss otherwise, and we did! We saw many rare sightings not often seen such as giraffe drinking, a large herd of Grevy's zebras crossing the Ewaso Nyiro River, bat eared foxes just posing for the camera, lots of tree climbing-lions, a mother lioness carrying her new born cub that walked right beside our van, wild dogs (very rare!), elephants mating, a cheetah chase that interrupted by a baboon turning the tables on the cheetah, the migration surrounding our van and many more! And, it never hurts to have someone along with you who knows the ropes and the way of 'TIA' (This Is Africa).
The drivers and the vehicles that Daniel used throughout Kenya and Tanzania were also top-notch. They were well taken care of, well maintained, comfortable vehicles with many new features to us, as well as the old familiar need-to-have features we are accustomed to. Daniel asks for the best drivers, and he gets. Both our drivers in Kenya and Tanzania were amiable, knowledgeable, excellent spotters & drivers, and easy to understand.
DK Grand Safaris came through as a top-notch company, and in just that one trip, convinced us that Daniel's company will become one of the best in their industry.
