6 Days Primates Trekking in Uganda Park

Day 1

Entebbe City

You will be met upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda by our Safari representative who will later transfer you to the city hotel located within Entebbe town. Your hotel is a luxurious four-star resort hotel ideally located on the glistening shores of Lake Victoria and a convenient 1km from the Entebbe airport. The hotel complements your travel style with elegant furnishings and a warm, inviting feel, the hotel’s decor, and rooms create a luxurious atmosphere. The outside terrace, with its own special ambiance and superb lake views, is the perfect place to take it all in. Entebbe is a major town in central Uganda located on the peninsula of Lake Victoria and is 37km south of Kampala which is the capital of Uganda.

Day 2

Kibale National Park – Travel Day

After breakfast at the city hotel, you will be transferred to the Entebbe International Airport for the morning/midday scheduled flight to Kasese Airstrip. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by our guide who will transfer you to your lodge for check-in followed by lunch. Kibale National Park was established in the 1940s and covers an area of 795km sq. it’s famous for the great numbers and varieties of resident primates, its estimated 13 primate’s species live in this park. Kibale is the epicenter for chimpanzees trekking because of the largest density of chimpanzees globally with more than 1450 groups having been habituated, and the routes are considered suitable for travelers in any physical condition. Afternoon at leisure, or alternatively, you can decide to book any of the many optional activities which might include; Community walks, Guided Nature walk and hiking in Kibale National Park, home to more than 200 butterfly species, 350 tree species, 71 mammals species, and over 375 bird species. Night nature walks are also enjoyable and you have a chance to explore the nocturnal species.

Day 3

Queen Elizabeth National Park – Chimps Trekking Day

After breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred/walk to the ranger’s station for pre-chimps trekking de-brief. Your trekking will start from the ranger’s station walking through the forest searching for the chimpanzees that keep on swinging from one tree to the next. From the starting point, the trek might take less than hour or some hours depending on where the Chimpanzees spend their night. Upon sighting of the Chimpanzees, you will spend one hour with them as they go about their daily life mostly feeding and swinging from one tree to the other. Later, you will trek back to the starting point where you will be rewarded with a graduation certificate, thereafter and you will be transferred/walk back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you will depart for an afternoon game viewing at Queen Elizabeth National Park situated in the heart of the western Rift Valley along the border with DRC. The park has a diverse ecosystem ranging from Africa Savanna grasslands, shady forest, sparkling lakes and lush wetland which provide ideal habitats for a wide variety of mammals and birds. In the afternoon you have an option of either proceeding on a game drive in the park or book an optional cruise along the kazinga channel. Please contact your guide for the cruise rates.

Day 4

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Travel Day

After breakfast, you will check out and depart for game viewing towards Ishasha area which is famous for Tree climbing lions. Alternatively, you might decide you have not seen enough and book directly with the camp/lodge for another Chimps trekking at Kyambura Gorge depending on availility of the trekking permits. Later proceed by road to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest area for late check in. Afternoon at leisure, this will be the day of unwinding as you look forward to the trek the next day. Alternatively, you can decide to book any of many optional activities in and around Buhoma town and the lodge; This includes; Body massage offered by a masseuse from the lodge, a tour of Buhoma village, and witnessing the local people as they make local baskets, and crafts, You may also witness the locals as well as they distill their local Gin from bananas, you can book a guided walk in the rainforest, or visit the Batwa (pygmy’s people) who are the original forest dwellers who were hunters & gathers. Later you will return back to the lodge for a hot shower, before dinner.

Day 5

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Trekking Day

Early morning breakfast will be served at the lodge. Thereafter you will be transferred/walk to the ranger’s station for pre-gorilla trekking de-brief. Your trekking can either start at the ranger’s headquarters or you can be transferred by your safari vehicle to a different starting point. While trekking, we recommend you drink lots of water, wear comfortable boots suitable for steep muddy slopes, and light rain jacket as Bwindi National Park has unpredictable weather. Walking sticks will be offered to those who need them at the park headquarters or at the lodge. You will trek through the steep, densely forested hills assisted by optional hired porters and guides then finally you will come across the gorilla’s family camouflaged in the vegetation something which is really inspiring and privileged moment. Upon sighting the gorillas, you will spend one hour with them as they go about their daily life; feeding, moving, playing, raising their young, and sometimes wrestling by the juveniles – it is a totally unique and unforgettable experience! Later you will descend back to the starting point where you will have your picnic lunch and be rewarded with a graduation certificate, thereafter and you will be transferred/walk back lodge for an afternoon at leisure or visit Ride 4 a woman.

Day 6

Depart for Home

Trekking Rules

  • Keep your voice low.
  • Don’t litter the forest.
  • Don’t touch the Gorillas.
  • One has to be 15 years and above.
  • Flash photography is not allowed.
  • One hour is allowed to view the Gorillas.
  • One group is trekked by a maximum of eight guests per day.
  • If a Gorilla charges, don’t run away shouting, please stay calm.
  • During this time of Covid, you are required to wear a face Mask
  • Eating, drinking, or smoking is not allowed when you are near Gorillas
  • Book early in advance because there is high completion of Gorilla permits.
  • In case you need to use the toilet, please consult your trekking guide, he has a solution for you.

  • Once you meet the Gorillas keep a distance of 32 feet, though once in a while the Gorillas might come closer to you.

  •  You need Rain gear, a Safari hat, Garden gloves, and some people carry along Gaiters.
