14 Days: Kenya Adventure Safari

Day 1

Nairobi Arrival

All your international inbound flights should be booked to arrive in Kenya – Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport irrespective of the time and the airline. After clearing with customs, immigration and confirming you have collected all your luggage, please proceed outside the building to the paging area where you will find our Safari representative holding a pager with DK Grand Safaris Log and your surname/Group name printed below the logo. After a warm introduction to each other with a hug, you will be assisted with your luggage and taken to the vehicle. You will proceed to your city hotel for check-in and overnight. Nairobi is one of the most influential cities in Africa being the main hub, and regional, headquarters for several vital commercial and financial companies. It’s the starting point for most of safaris journeys, in East Africa because of its strategic location and large airport serviced by several international airlines. It’s the world’s only wildlife capital, only 4 miles from Nairobi Business District is Nairobi National Park.

Day 2

Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast at the city hotel, you will depart by road to Tsavo West National Park, driving through several towns along Nairobi/Mombasa road. Konza Technopolis City (also called African Silicon Valley) is one of the major attractions on the way. Its objective is to develop a smart city serving as a strategic area of innovation and development of knowledge and economy. Tsavo National Park is home to the largest population of red-skinned elephants, and many endangered African wildlife including the black rhinoceros, cape buffalos, leopards, cheetah, kobs, lesser kudu, fringe-eared oryx, wild dogs, and over 500 different bird species have been recorded in the park. The park is known as well as the Land of lava, the Man-eaters of Tsavo, the natural springs and the Magical sunset. You will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch followed by check-in. An afternoon game viewing is scheduled for you where you will experience the breathtaking beauty and exhilarating adventure of the land of lions and lava. Later you will return back to the lodge viewing deck, where there is a permanent water hole and several animals come for a drink and mud bath as guests enjoy their dinner or cocktails.

Day 3

Tsavo West National Park

This full day will be spent at Tsavo West National Park; the park contains a diversity of habitats and a mountainous scenic landscape including rocky outcrops and volcanic hills. The views over the savanna plains are spectacular, huge anthills, the giant baobab tress which is reputed to live a thousand years, and Mount Kilimanjaro can also be seen. Morning and afternoon game viewing have been scheduled for you which includes a visit to Mzima Springs, where hippos and fish can be seen in crystal clear water that has filtered underground from Chyulu Hills gushing below the lava. Rainwater percolates through the rock and may spend 25 years underground before emerging 50 kilometers away at Mzima Springs. Other attractions include; the Shetani Lava flows, Chaimu volcanic crater and Lava field, five sister hills, the Tsavo River, Poachers lookout, etc. Keep your eyes open for giraffes which surprisingly are well camouflaged as they nibble the tops of the Acacia trees. Look under the shady trees to find lions sleeping after lunch, and be ready to stop as gazelles and/or cheetahs stroll across the road in front of you.

Day 4

Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, you will check out and depart by road to Amboseli National Park. The park is famous for the large herds of elephants, thanks to Dr. Cynthia Moss born in the USA and moved to Africa in 1968 she has lived and worked for wildlife there ever since. She has concentrated her studies on the distribution, demography, population dynamics, social organization, and behavior of the Amboseli elephants. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust” and the park has mixed topography of plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bushes, swamps, and marshes which have an endless underground water supply filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro’s ice cap. This diversity, along with a long dry season, ensures excellent viewing of the large concentrations of African animals living in their natural habitat. . The size of the park is (392 km2; 151 sq. mi) and extends up to Kenya/Tanzania border. Arrive at the lodge/camp which is strategically located in time for lunch. An afternoon game viewing has been scheduled for you. This diversity, along with a long dry season, ensures excellent viewing of the large concentrations of African animals living in their natural habitat. Day 5

Amboseli National Park

The next day will be your climax as you trespass through different terrains of Amboseli National Park which is also famous for its scenery with a backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, (the world’s largest free-standing mountain 5,895 meters 9,340 feet) and umbrella-shaped Acacia tress which dominates the landscape. Your private professional driver guide/tour leader is an expert in positioning the safari jeep for this National Geographic photo moment. Your adventure isn’t complete unless you visit one of Kenya’s nomadic and warrior-like people who have retained much of their traditional ways of life despite continuous pressure from the West. A guided village tour will be organized for you by the son of the chef, areas of interest will include; visiting her mother’s house, meeting the village medicine man, making fire by rubbing two sticks together, and finally a visit to the market where you will have an opportunity to shop from their handmade crafts items though it’s not mandatory. The day’s activities aren’t over yet, an afternoon game viewing has been scheduled for you

Day 6

Nairobi National Park

Breakfast will be served at the lodge/camp check out and depart by road for Nairobi game viewing en route. You will be transferred to your city hotel for check-in and then lunch. After lunch, you will depart for an afternoon game viewing in Nairobi National Park. within 15 minutes from your city hotel, you will immerse yourself in the wildlife wonders of the park, and with thriving wildlife around every turn, The park is home to one of the world’s densest concentrations of black and white rhinoceros and several mammals’ which include:  zebras, giraffe, cape buffalo’s, water-bucks, elands, warthogs, impalas, gazelles, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, wildebeest, etc as well as more than 500 different species of permanent and migratory birds have been spotted in the park. Some of the most spectacular scenery in the park you wouldn’t like to miss out on if weather permits include: The Ivory Memorial Burning Site, Other sites of attractions include; the Hippo Pool where you can take a walk along the Athi River in search of the hippopotamus and crocodiles in addition to many velvet monkeys which huge around that area. Baboon Clip/Escarpment, Narogoman dam, Mokoyeti picnic site – it’s an open cliff top with toilets and a good picnic site as well. Later you will be transferred back to your city Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7

Samburu Game Reserve

After breakfast, you will be transferred by road to the airstrip for a morning scheduled flight to Samburu Game Reserve via Nairobi. Nurtured by the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu is rugged, calmly inviting, and enveloped in the air of remote Old Africa, scented by acacia. The reserve has retained its natural serene and quiet feeling. Numerous wildlife is found in this game reserve and over 350 species of birds have been recorded in the park. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the camp for check-in followed by lunch. The Ewaso Nyiro River cuts through the reserve, drawing a big population of Kenyan animals to the park. The river bustles with activity from its huge population of Nile crocodiles. Enjoy an afternoon game viewing and introduction to a fabulous plentitude of large and cunningly small mammals.

Day 8

Samburu Game Reserve

Spend this day at Samburu Game Reserve with morning and afternoon game viewing scheduled for you in the reserve, a hilly region with riverine forests, doum palms, acacia woodland, and scrubland, offering a dramatic and rugged landscape. You will search for the ‘Samburu five’ which includes the long-necked gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, the Beisa oryx, and the Somali ostrich among other wildlife and birds. An optional complimentary cultural visit to Samburu village is offered to you. They are neighbors to the park and are famous for their remote culture, pastoral, and nomadic way of life and you have an opportunity to purchase some traditional Samburu souvenirs, art, and collectibles.

Day 9

Mount Kenya Region

Breakfast will be served at the camp/lodge followed by checkout. You will depart by road to the Central highlands of Kenya to the famous Mount Kenya Safari Club, a beautiful hotel in a delightful setting, offering magnificent views of Mount Kenya. You will arrive at the club in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon off from the normal game viewing and just relax at the club which is stylishly designed to provide the ideal safari experience where comfort, luxury, and outstanding personal service combine naturally with the beautiful wilderness. The club offers several optional activities within its 100 acres of property which include; Horseback riding, the stables are saddled and ready to go, on a crystal clear day, a Mountain bike will make for a perfect ride, try to play Golf with your friend, where you will tee off facing mount Kenya’s ice-clad peak, Croquet, Nature walks, Bird walks, Tennis, the Millennium maze, Archery, Spa treatments, Helicopter rides to the top peak of Mount Kenya and don’t forget to visit the Animal orphanage. You can as well try the Equator Ceremony at the main restaurant as you enjoy four o’clock tea and witness the Coriolis force at zero because the equator line divides the restaurant into two.

Day 10

Mount Kenya Region and OlPejeta Conservancy

After breakfast at the Club, you’ll depart by road to Ol Pejeta Conservancy; a 90,000-acre private wildlife conservancy that is a role model in conservation started by Jane Goodall to provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. It is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East and Central Africa with over 150 endangered black Rhinos and over 40 Southern white rhinos. It’s also home to the last two remaining of the world’s northern white rhinos namely; Najin born in 1989 and her daughter Fatu born in 2000 all born in the Republic of Czechoslovakia. Nola was the last Northern white rhino in San Diego Zoo and died in November 2015 and Sudan was the world’s last male northern white rhino and died at the age of 45 years in Kenya on March 19th, 2018. Other wild animals also found in the conservancy include; Zebra, Lion, Thomson’s gazelle, Grant’s gazelle, Oryx, Eland, Baboon, Black-faced Monkeys, Reticulated giraffes, Cape buffaloes, Impalas, Cheetahs, Elephant, and over 500 species of birds have been recorded within the conservancy which makes it a bird watchers paradise.. Later you will drive back to Mount Kenya Safari Club for lunch and leisure time in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at Mount Kenya Safari Club.

Day 11

Masai Mara Game Reserve

Leisurely breakfast will be served at the club’s main restaurant, thereafter check out and you will be transferred by road to Nanyuki Airstrip to connect the morning scheduled flight to the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. One of the great wonders of the world in terms of animal migrations according to ABC News’ “Good Morning America” show. It’s also considered a “must-see” by almost all visitors going on safari because the park is graced by a wide variety of unique and exquisite wildlife and birds. The Mara boasts the richest environment in the region and you’ll find all manner of wildlife grazing, hunting, and thundering across its plain. It is regarded as the most spectacular wildlife viewing area in Kenya with over 95 species of mammals and over 400 species of birds. Upon arrival at the camp/lodge, you will experience a connection with culture and nature like never before. Lunch will be served outside the main restaurant with an excellent view of the Mara plains or the Mara River from a distance. An afternoon game viewing has been scheduled for you.

Day 12

Masai Mara Game Reserve

Morning and afternoon game drives have been scheduled for you. You will have all the time to enjoy taking pictures and being close to nature as our professional guide educates you more on the behaviors of your favorite animals, birds, plants, or insects. The scenic appeal of the umbrella-shaped tree, studded savannah plains, the moderate climate, and the diversity of wild game species make it a one-stop shop for game-viewing activities. This is the day you will be searching for the pride of lions, a coalition of cheetahs, the clan of hyenas, a leap of leopards, a pack of jackals, a dazzle of zebras, herd of antelopes, a confusion of wildebeest, a tower of giraffes, a sounder of warthogs, gang of buffalos, school of hippos and the dangerous bask of crocodiles along the Mara River. We will also try our luck to search for the famous Wildebeest migration depending on the season of travel. If the big cats are what you’re looking for, The Masai Mara ecosystem has one of the largest densities of lions in the world and that’s why it’s the home to the famous BBC wildlife channel “Big Cat Diary”. You may have viewed this dramatic event on your electronic screens but if it is your first time to view in reality, believe us that it is going to be the most thrilling lifetime experience packed with action.

Day 13

Masai Mara Game Reserve

On this day, you have an option of going on the morning safari or you might decide to spice up your adventure with an optional Balloon Safari Adventure. It starts before the golden sunrise, enchanting sceneries, and plain game below as the winds gently blow the basket deeper into the reserve. Soar silently with 360 degrees from a unique bird’s-eye view, a spectacular savannah below with plenty of photographic opportunities unfolding. You will fly over the great Mara River, the Swamps, Forests, Wildlife & the African savannah. Breakfast will be set up on the picturesque savannah plains of the Mara, typically under the shade of a single balanite tree, you will be welcomed by a glass of sparkling wine. Thereafter your adventure safari will continue or enjoy a leisurely game drive back to the camp/lodge reliving the memories of the morning’s flight. While still at the Masai Mara, an optional walking safari can be arranged for the most adventurous guestPlease confirm with the lodge/camp if a walking safari is an option offered.

Day 14

Depart

After breakfast, you will check out and transfer to Masai Mara Airstrip to connect midday scheduled flight to Nairobi –Wilson Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met by our concierge team, who has organized lunch at a city restaurant/city hotel. A day room has been reserved for you until 06:00 pm for final refreshments and repacking. Later after the farewell dinner, you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international outbound flight.
