Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second biggest (1,978 square kilometers/774 sq mi) national park in Uganda after Murchison’s Falls National Park.

Several names have been given to the park since it was established in 1952 from Kazinga National Park, Rwenzori National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain when she visited Uganda in 1954. It’s also called the pearl of Africa because it’s a World bio-sphere reserve with a RAMSAR wetland site

The park habitats and topography landmarks ranges from volcanic cones which include several craters to African Savannah, forest, wetlands, and lakes. The famous antelope Uganda Kob is endemic to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Annual temperatures remain stable throughout the year because of the park proximity to the equator line. Average daytime temperatures vary from 29°C/84° and drop at night to 17°C/63°F.

Queen Elizabeth National Park Location
The park is located on the western part of Uganda in between Lake Edward and Lake George, Kasinge channel which connects the two lakes boarding Democratic Republic of Congo. The park is approximately 400 kilometers (250 miles) by road from Kampala the capital city of Uganda. The altitude of Queen Elizabeth National Park ranges from 3,020 feet to 6,070 feet (920 meters to 1,850 meters), asl.
