Masai Mara Game Reserve
A balloon safari is a romantic and evocative way of experiencing the wilderness of East Africa, as you gracefully and silently fly over the plains teeming with herds of wildlife in the early morning. You will wake up early, usually before dawn around 4:00 am – 5:00 am depending on your camp/lodge in relation to the balloon launching site. You may be served a cup of Coffee, African Tea, or Hot chocolate during the wake-up time.
You will depart the camp/lodge with a balloon vehicle and be taken to the ballooning start point. On getting there you will still enjoy another cup of tea or coffee while you watch as the balloon is inflated. You will assemble at the launch site as the flames from the hot air balloon light the darkness as the crew inflates their craft. When they are ready you clamber into the basket and your pilot will give you a short briefing. Then, as the sun rises, so does your balloon. The direction you take will depend on the wind and you may float over forests, plains, or rivers.

It starts before the golden sunrise, enchanting sceneries, and plain game below as the winds gently blow the basket deeper into the reserve. Your pilot will point out the game below and there are ample opportunities for photography. One of the best things about ballooning is that’s totally and the gentle and silent nature of the balloon flight allows the passengers to view the wildlife from a comfortable distance. Soar silently with 360 degrees from a unique bird’s-eye view, a spectacular savannah below with plenty of photographic opportunities unfolding. The balloon flight takes you over the diverse habitats of the Masai Mara Reserve; the great Mara River, swamps, forests, wildlife, and the African Savannah. The diversity of the flight trail enables guests to experience a unique opportunity to be a part of the Masai Mara from the air.
After around an hour you will land on the plains, possibly with a bump, and certainly ready for breakfast. Breakfast will be set up on the picturesque savannah plains of the Mara, typically under the shade of a single balanite tree. We understand your joy, and we celebrate this life-changing adventure by serving a special traditional champagne breakfast at your landing site, and guests are served a fresh ‘made-toorder’ hot breakfast of their preference. Non-alcoholic beverages are also available, and any allergies/food restrictions will be accommodated.
Thereafter your adventure safari will continue or enjoy a leisurely game drive back to the camp/lodge reliving the memories of the morning’s flight.
