Located in South Central Serengeti, within the Moru Kopjes area, Serengeti Pioneer Camp is ideally situated close to the breeding plains of the wildebeest, near the start of their dramatic yearly mass migration, it is ideally placed to observe this world famous event and the ‘Big 5’ with sweeping views overlooking Moru Kopjes, Lake Magadi and the endless plains. Paying homage to the mobile camps of the 1930’s, a time when an African safari was truly a journey into the unknown, Serengeti Pioneer Camp’s ‘zero footprint’ and close proximity to nature combines to make an unmistakably distinctive and truly individual offering. Comprising of twelve impressively luxurious tents around the base of the Kopje and a lounge, bar and dining room reached by a rustic timber ramp. There is also a swimming pool. All the tents boast authentic Edwardian furnishings, trunks, traveling desks with writing material, wooden sideboards, safari chairs and old-fashioned copper-headed showers together with more modern facilities including flushing toilets, vanity wash basins, water heated by solar panels and solidly comfortable twin or double beds with mosquito nets. The tent interiors are designed to evoke the very best of an era long-gone but certainly not forgotten. As the Serengeti Pioneer Camp is in the path of the migration, you will experience and see for yourself the journey of the wildebeest and the fight for survival between prey and predator. Dedicated safari guides will join you on a custom-built safari vehicle as they track and try to follow the path of the migration and resident wildlife from hoofed herbivores to stalking canines.The exciting game drives of your Tanzania safari traditionally take place in the dawn before breakfast or at mid-afternoon to early evening, when the animals are just about to settle for the night. The radio links among safari vehicles allow shared tracking communication between the guides, thus maximize your wildlife viewing experience in Serengeti.You can also personalize your game drives and go on a day-long adventure. The staff will prepare your meals in a picnic basket, and you can enjoy your uninterrupted Serengeti trip and take pleasure in being part of the natural phenomena that cannot be found anywhere else. You will be part of the journey of a million wildebeest as they go through the Serengeti plains, traveling as a group and fighting hunger, thirst and predation. All meals provide a choice of styles and dishes, both hot and cold; from full English breakfasts to soups, stews, salads and roasts and from breakfast cereals, eggs and waffles to cold platters and sundowner snacks. There is always a fine selection of freshly made breads, cakes and desserts. All meals can be arranged in many different venues, both private and public, indoors and out. Special diets can be catered for with advance notice. All food is wholesome, locally sourced whenever possible and freshly cooked on the premises. Wines, spirits, fruit juices and other beverages are of the highest quality while Tanzanian teas and coffees are aromatic and first-rate. Breakfast and dinner may be taken in the dining tent. Breakfast can also be taken by the swimming pool or even during your early morning game drive. Dinner can be taken en suite, in the main dining tent or around the campfire. Other options include bush dinners at designated dining spots complete with well-stocked bush bars.
