Day 2

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, you will check out and depart by road to Tarangire National Park, the park lies about 120km southwest of Arusha town, dominated by the seasonal Tarangire River. The Park is named after the famous Tarangire River. The park covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers (1,100 square miles.)  The park’s natural vegetation and landscape are of particular interest mainly because it’s composed of Acacia woodland, granitic ridges, river valley, and swamps, and the high number of giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south.

Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals, particularly during the dry season, when the Tarangire River and the swamps are the only sources of water in the area. While in the park one expects to experience the thrilling nature of wildness by being exposed to different attractions. It’s the home to the largest Elephant population in Northern Tanzania and the number is rapidly increasing. Common animals likely to be seen include Africa Elephants, Zebras, Waterbucks, Lions, Giraffe, Gazelles, Kudus, Cheetah, Warthogs, Oryx, Cape buffalo, Monkeys, Baboons, Dik diks, etc  and more than 550 species of birds.

Day 3

Tarangire National Park

The next day will be your climax as you trespass through different terrains of Tarangire National Park ranging from the seasonal swamps, o acacia woodland. The best time to visit Tarangire National park is during the fry season June to October, that’s when the Park has seasonal long-distance migrations of zebras and wildebeest towards the permanent water swamps and Tarangire River and see Tree climbing lions in the sausage trees. In 2015 a white giraffe was seen in the park by Dr. Derek Lee. The icon of Tarangire National Park is the majestic baobab trees that tower over every other living entity. The scientific name — Adansonia digitata — is named in honor of Michel Adanson, the naturalist who “first saw” the tree in Senegal about 1750. It’s also called the upside-down tree, the local’s belief is that when the Baobab tree was planted by God, it kept walking all the time, so God pulled it up and replanted it upside down to stop it from moving. This prehistoric species is over 200 million years and the carbon dating method indicates they may live up to 3,000 years old.

Later you will proceed by road to Ngorongoro Crater Conservancy which was established in 1959 as a multiple-land use area, where wildlife could co-exist with the semi-nomadic Maasai, who move from one place to another in search of water and pasture. The name Ngorongoro is a name given by the native Maasi people meaning “the black hole”. Extensive archaeological research has yielded evidence of human evolution including early hominid footprints dating back 3.6 million. The crater supports a vast number of animals such as elephants, café buffalos, hyenas, lions, jackals, zebras, wildebeest, and more than 550 bird species because of the freshwater it holds. There are no giraffes in the crater because of the steep descent. The major highlights of Ngorongoro Crater are, Lake Magadi which is home to several bird species, Hippo pool popular picnic site, Mandusi swamp popular with elephants, Lerai forest popular with baboons. The park covers an area of 5,700 sq miles, (14,763sq km), which means it’s larger than Connecticut State in the USA.  In 1981, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage and Biosphere Reserves site because of its biodiversity and ecological significance. The voyage of more than one million wildebeest, zebras, and other hoofed animals starts from here as they travel towards the famous Masai Mara Games Reserve – Kenya where they are known to offer a dramatic show as they cross the Mara River full of crocodiles, its where “survival is for the fittest”  from July to October every year.
